Chinese Torreya Trees: Fragrant Symbols of Longevity

Huangling is also home to two rareChinesetorreya trees (Torreya grandis 'Merrillii'), large evergreens belonging to the yew family. Endemic to China, the torreya is known for itsvaluable nuts, which are rich in nutrients and prized for theircrisp texture and fragrant flavor. These nuts have long been considered aluxury dried fruit.

Thedense, fine-grained wood of the torreya was historically used in craftinghigh-end furniture and artisanal goods. Today, the tree is protected for itsecological and ornamental value.
