Wuxian, also known as Wutong or Wuchang, is revered by believers as the “God of Five Wealth.” Wuyuan holds the distinction of being the birthplace of the Wuxian faith and serves as the ancestral temple for Wuxian worship. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Wuxian gained prominence as a significant interregional deity worshipped by the people. Following Zheng Chenggong’s (Koxinga) recovery of Taiwan during the Ming Dynasty, the Wuxian faith was introduced to the region, where it has since become the third-largest religion.
